I setup an account with FedEx to ship items. Guitars generally weigh around 11-17 lbs depending on cases and weight of guitar/bass they generally cost about 13-21.00 via FedEx where it is around 35-40 via USPS and UPS.

I ship amps with them also and it is real simple and cheap.

I also tell people to use my account when they ship to me, it make it easier on the seller if they use my account they don't have to take their money out, and I know they are not going to over charge me on shipping. FedEx has an option to have items shipped to recipients account. I just got a Marshall amp shipped to me on my account costs about $20.00 where the shipper was going to charge me about 35-40 to ship it. He didn't ave an account and was going to ship via UPS.

Fedex is cheaper to an extent.  They hit me with a lot of hidden charges and fees.  Like in the shipping quote on fedex.com they don't estimate the $3-$4 residential fee.  Another problem I had with fedex was their local drop off location wasn't 'authorized' therefore they were tacking on a 'pick-up' charge... even though I was dropping the packages off to the drop off location.

Remind you this drop off location was listed on their website, yet they wouldn't honor it.  I complained enough to get the fees taken off.. but it was hassle so I try to not use them anymore.

Perhaps they would be better if they had a 'certified' drop off location local to me.  ummokay

 yes

I'm lucky I'm right by a FedEx-Kinkos and for residential they add 1.95 for all my stuff, but I have an account so there is a discount. I only ship maybe 2-3 things a month so I think anyone can setup an account. Even with the added fees isn't it cheaper? I know it's at least 50% cheaper than USPS and UPS for me.
