Fender Road Worn Guitars
April 10, 2009 by Chaz
Brand new guitars just don’t have that feel and vibe or sound until it’s had a beer spilled on it, drug across the stage or has been dropped off the stage. Fender’s Road Worn series haven’t seen this kind of abuse outside the factory, but they certainly look like they have. Based on classic Fender guitars and basses of the 50s and 60s, the Road Worn models include two Stratocasters, a Telecaster, Jazz bass and a Precision bass.
The Road Worn guitars and basses are magnificently aged and distressed to replicate that particular worn look of a vintage guitar that has toured the world. Each Road Worn instrument is perfectly aged for that broken in feel and look, however, unlike genuine vintage guitars, they are affordable for the working musician.
The Road Worn guitars feature an alder body (ash-wood for the Tele) and maple necks, visibly relic nitrocellulose lacquer-finished bodies, smooth worn-in necks and distressed chrome hardware (nickel-chrome for basses) for a worn-in appearance. While the instruments have been designed with period-correct specifications, numerous modern upgrades have been integrated into each model, including Tex-Mex single-coil pickups, larger 6105 frets and five-way pickup switches (Strat models).
The End Line
The spirit and essence from these guitars are unmistakably vintage like that old Harley Davidson motorcycle parked in the garage. The Fender Road Worn guitars look, feel, and play like they have been producing music for 40 years with fretboard wear, arm wear on the finish, and distressed hardware. Each Road Worn guitar has the reminiscent of the old-days when rock was rock and scars were proudly displayed as a emblem of experience. Guitars and basses get better with age, with the Road Worn you’ll be ahead of the game.
