Epiphone worked closely with Robb Flynn of Machine Head to produce a first of its kind guitar, the Epiphone Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying-V.

Robb Flynn, founder of Machine Head, is a heavy metal guitar virtuoso that knows the role of guitars in heavy metal music. Epiphone is aware of this and together they co-designed the new Epiphone Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying-V.

Epiphone GuitarsIt is a first of its kind guitar for both Epiphone and Gibson. It is unique because of its 27.0″ baritone scale which Robb specifically preferred. This produces the same unique sound that Robb Flynn has introduced to metal and hard rock. Flynn remarked: “The main reason for having the slightly shorter 27.0″ baritone scale is when you tune down to B, it just makes the low definition really tight, especially for palm muting and chunking, it opens up the sound alot”.

At the heart of the Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying-V is a Mahogany Body connected to a SlimTaper D-profile baritone scale neck. The neck is equipped with a 1.68″ graphite nut for stable and precise tuning, an ebony fingerboard with “Love/Death” special inlays and 24 medium jumbo frets.

Special electronics are installed as per Robb Flynn’s specs. It sports an EMG-HA neck pickup which is a single-coil pickup disguised as a humbucker. The EMG-HA debuted in 1974, a noiseless single coil pickups with Alnico magnets for warmth and frequency response. Matched with the low tuning of a baritone guitar, this pickup is designed to produce that solid rhythmic “chunk” which Heavy Metal is known for.

Epiphone GuitarsThe installed EMG-81 bridge pickup is one of EMG’s most requested pickups and features ceramic magnets with close aperture coils for low end cut and fluid sustain. The EMG-81 matches well with the unique intervals of low baritone tuning. It is designed to help your metal leads cut through dense mixes.

The pickups are controlled by a straightforward master volume knob and a 3-way toggle switch. Other features included are the standard 1/4″ metal jack plate and Epiphone strap locks, Grover locking tuners and LockTone Tune-o-matic/Stopbar.

The guitar comes with the same string gauge as what Robb uses namely (low to high) .58. .42, .32 unwound .18, .13, and .10. It also comes with a custom Robb Flynn and Strephon Taylor designed hard case that matches the guitar. As an added bonus the first 250 Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying-V produced will have a special hand-signed certificate.
