The Fender American Stratocaster is exactly what the name suggests a Strat made in America. More specifically it’s a Stratocaster made with their current standard specifications as far as pickups, neck shape, and materials. The Vintage reissues, on the other hand are Stratocasters made to the exact specifications of whatever year they’re reissuing. For example: The ‘54 reissue has a maple fretboard, mint green pickguard, a V shaped neck and the exact same pickup style it would have had in 1954. As far as which is better, let your ears be the judge. If you like the exact sound of old Strats, and yes they do sound slightly different, or if you like a particular neck shape and can’t afford an original(more than $25k for a ‘54) then the vintage reissues would be better for you. On the other hand, if you just want a nice sounding, nice playing guitar and aren’t too particular about specs then go with the American Strat. One word of advice though; go to a music store to get your guitar, that way you can play the exact guitar you’re going to buy. It’ll cost a little more, but you won’t have to worry about shipping damage or ending up with a guitar you don’t like, as all guitars are made of wood and every piece of wood has it’s own feel and sound.
