I found this interesting looking guitar when it was posted to a Facebook group of which I am a member called the Shred Guitar Group, I immediately wanted to find out more about this creation so I contacted the man who built it Nathan Spielberg and was astounded to find out that Nathan is only 15 years old! The guitar took around 60 hours to make using a 200 year old piece of Tulipwood with a Ribbon figure for the body. The neck is made from Granadillo (check out the information on Ellis Guitars’ site) and the fretboard from Cocobolo. This interesting choice of woods surprised me too, Nathan hasn’t just plumped for standard guitar timbers such as Maple or Mahogany and maybe this is due to cost but if he is experimenting like this at the age of 15 imagine what lies ahead for him! Maybe one of the Guitar Noize regulars such as Jol Dantzig might be able to give Nathan a few tips?
As yet this guitar doesn’t have a name and Nathan and I thought it would be fun to see if Guitar Noize readers could come up with something fitting and post your idea as a comment. I came up with the name ’The Saboteur‘ but I’m sure you can do better than that?
Check out some larger pics here and you can keep track of Nathan’s progress on Facebook here.
